About Ojibwa Health Store

Started in October of 1915, Ojibwa has had many versions over the decades, but the vision has remained the same – to be a hub for holistic products and information on natural living. “Doc” Shafe was the original owner who started it all on Saginaw Street as “Ojibwa Medicine Co,” famous for their Indian Bitters formula. He brought his studies of Native American herbal medicines into the retail space, so people could learn the effects of Earth’s remedies for themselves. The store only expanded from there, and came to include both herbs and A-Z vitamins and minerals for broader offerings. Today, Ojibwa carries everything from multivitamins, to probiotics, to herbal teas and tinctures, to functional pet foods, and organic spices. October 2025 just marked 110 years in business for Ojibwa! We are so proud to part of this heritage to serve Genesee County and the surrounding areas for this long.

Community

Ojibwa Health Store, as it stands today, strives to step outside of the corporate mentality when it comes to business and continue forward with Ojibwa’s original vision – to provide quality products at reasonable prices, and offer our customers resources, education, and outside contacts that may help them along their unique health journeys. Ojibwa believes there is enough for everyone, and focuses on what can be done in the moment for each person that visits. We are happy to be a community-based and focused presence in the great state of Michigan, and look forward to helping as many people as we can, hopefully for many more decades to come.
